Well, not sure if/when I’ll get to a review of True Grit, but you should be proud that the Academy has again given recognition to the Coen Brothers in their nomination for Best Director. Much to Christopher Nolan’s chagrin, I might add. Still it is going to be hard to be Hooper or Fincher this year, so the Coens will have to relish their win from a few years ago . . . I have no doubt they’ll win another statue before their career is over!

Gran Torino is not Eastwood’s best film as director or actor but it perfectly encapsulates his onscreen persona and his brilliant directorial career. Good review, check out mine when you can!

Hi 5plitreel . . . thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m in total agreement that Lawrence will get a nod for Best Actress, but Natalie has that one in the bag. I’m predicting that Black Swan will win 2-3 Academy Awards (Best Actress for sure and perhaps Best Make-up and Best Costumes). It will be nominated for Best Picture, but will lose out to the more accessible films (like The King’s Speech or The Social Network).

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. It seems like so many great movies have played before my eyes in the last few weeks that I don’t even remember “The Kids are All Right.” To my recollection, I don’t remember laughing at all during this film. Was it supposed to be a comedy (the Foreign Press Association obviously thinks so)? I’ve never been a very good judge of comedy.

Without any humor in the story, this would be a very sad story about a destructive mix of personalities causing havoc in a family. But the film does have a lot of humor in it.

Agree. Still saying Lawrence will definitely get a nominaton, and Black Swan will get at least Best Picture and female lead and possibly supporting!
